The Fresno State soccer team finally showed signs of life at Bulldog Stadium on Sunday.
The Bulldogs scored their first goals of the season and defeated the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners 2-0 to pick up their first victory of the 2009 season.
First-year head coach Brian Zwaschka̢۪s team had lost its first five matches before Sunday̢۪s contest.
Junior Claudia Cardenas picked up the team̢۪s first goal of the season in the 29th minute off of an assist from Molly Nizzoli to put the ̢۪Dogs up 1-0.
Fresno State̢۪s second score came in the 36th minute from freshman Callie Hancock, who scored from 35 feet out.
Rachel Pickett picked up the assist.
The Bulldogs outshot the Roadrunners 10-4 and claimed the second annual Valley Cup.
Bakersfield defeated Fresno State last season at home.
At 1-5, Fresno State heads to Stockton this Friday to play Pacific. The Tigers of the Big West Conference are 4-3-1.
