No. 1: Boise State (3-0)
Last Week: Beat Fresno State, 51-34, in Fresno
Next Opponent: Bowling Green
Why No. 1?: They are ranked No. 8 in the nation after beating Fresno, proving that they are still the superior team in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).
The Buzz: Boise State had a dominating performance against Fresno State. Sophomore quarterback Kellen Moore threw for 181 yards and three touchdowns. Also, tailbacks Jeremy Avery and D.J. Harper each had more than 100 yards rushing in the game.

No. 2: Fresno State (1-2)
Last Week: Lost to Boise State, 51-34, in Fresno
Next Opponent: No. 14 Cincinnati
Why No. 2?: The Bulldogs̢۪ two losses were against two great opponents. The Bulldogs should have beaten Wisconsin and were in it the whole time against Boise State.
The Buzz: While the loss to Boise State was tough, the lone bright spot was the spectacular play of junior tailback Ryan Mathews. Mathews had three touchdown runs of 60 yards or more. He finished the game with 19 carries for 234 yards.

No. 3: Idaho (2-1)
Last week: Beat San Diego State, 34-20, in Moscow
Next Opponent: Northern Illinois
Why No. 3?: The Vandals have picked up their play in 2009, beating New Mexico State and San Diego State. The Vandals lone loss was to Washington last week, a team that just beat USC Saturday.
The Buzz: After having only two wins last season, the Vandals have matched their season total in wins from last year. They are playing good defense and getting good play from quarterback Nathan Enderle, who has thrown for more than 200 yards in his last two games.

No. 4: Nevada (0-2)
Last Week: Lost to Colorado State, 35-20, in Fort Collins
Next Opponent: Missouri
Why No. 4?: Nevada has played a tough schedule, but has not played up to par and is in danger of dropping to 0-3. The high-powered offense has not yet taken off. However, they have the talent to win any given week.
The Buzz: The offense was shut out against Notre Dame and didn̢۪t show much against Colorado State. It looks like another tough game this week against Big 12 foe Missouri.

No. 5: Hawaii (2-1)
Last Week: Lost to UNLV, 34-33, in Las Vegas
Next Opponent: Louisiana Tech
Why No. 5?: The Warriors are 2-1 on the season, with a win over Pac-10 team Washington State. They had a chance to start the season 3-0, but lost to UNLV this past week 34-33.
The Buzz: The Warriors always have a great offense that can put points on the board. In his second year as starter, Greg Alexander continues to put up great passing numbers in Hawaii̢۪s offense. It will be interesting to see what Hawaii will do against Fresno State in three weeks.

No. 6: San Jose State (0-3)
Last Week: Lost to Stanford, 42-17, in Palo Alro
Next opponent: Cal Poly
Why No. 6?: Even though the Spartans are 0-3, they have played tough competition to open the season. Their losses have come to then-ranked No. 3 USC, No.17 Utah, and Stanford.
The Buzz: San Jose State looks to rebound this week and get into the win column against Cal Poly. They have had trouble running the ball. Not one tailback has more than 100 yards rushing on the season. The Spartans, however, play the top teams in the WAC after this week, playing Idaho, Fresno State and Boise State in their next three games after Cal Poly.

No. 7: Louisiana Tech (1-2)
Last week: Beat Nicholls State, 48-13, in Ruston
Next Opponent: Hawaii
Why No. 7?: The other Bulldogs have lost to two good teams in Auburn and Navy. They hung in with Auburn through the first half, only trailing by three at halftime.
The Buzz: It will be interesting to see if these Bulldogs can compete with the rest of the WAC. Tailback Daniel Porter has yet to get going on the ground and has not returned to his 100-yard self of 2008.

No. 8: Utah State (0-2)
Last Week: Lost to Texas A&M, 38-30, in College Station
Next Opponent: Southern Utah
Why No. 8?: The Utah State Aggies have played stiff competition in their first two games, losing to in-state rival Utah and hanging tough, but losing to Texas A&M.
The Buzz: The Aggies have received strong performances from junior quarterback Diondre Borel, who threw for more than 300 hundred yards and had two rushing touchdowns against Texas A&M.

No. 9: New Mexico State (1-2)
Last Week: Lost to UTEP, 38-12, in Las Cruces
Next Opponent: New Mexico
Why No. 9?: The New Mexico State Aggies̢۪ lone win came against Prairie View A&M, 21-18. Enough said.
The Buzz: The Aggies average 132 passing yards per game. New Mexico State will have a hard time the rest of the way as the Aggies go to No. 13 Ohio St and No. 8 Boise State.
