2009 record: 2-0
The story so far: The Boise State Broncos were recently ranked No. 10 in the Associated Press poll and the Coaches̢۪ poll. In their previous game against Miami (Ohio), the Broncos completely shut out the RedHawks 48-0. Throughout the game, the RedHawks were only able to run the ball for 41 yards. The Broncos̢۪ defense has only given up eight points in their first two games.
Impact Players: Offense — Quarterback Kellen Moore started his second season with Boise State with phenomenal passing numbers, proving his WAC Freshman of the Year title last season wasn’t just a fluke. The sophomore signal-caller had 307 passing yards against the RedHawks, including a 65-yard throw to wide receiver Austin Pettis.
Defense — Cornerback Kyle Wilson. It’s hard to pinpoint a specific impact defender since the Broncos’ defense is an adversary every WAC team should be weary of, but one player in particular stands out with his consistent attacking skills. Cornerback Kyle Wilson had seven overall tackles against Miami (Ohio), six of those were solo plays.
The Buzz: Many factors led to the 61-10 demise of the ̢۪Dogs against the Broncos in 2008, but defense pressure may be the most important. Broncos̢۪ defense pressured former quarterback Tom Brandstater, who threw two interceptions and he got sacked twice in that game. The Bulldogs will need to keep quarterback Ryan Colburn upright in the pocket to have a chance.
