‘Injustice’ in education system

How ignorant can we be? How much longer will we as students allow our selves to be financially oppressed?

We are the living breathing body of this university. If we as a single body were to rise and speak against the direct attack on our education the state would tremble. The institution would tremble under the voice of a single self-proclamation against the disempowerment created by the quick rising student fees.

While we wait, the individuals that should be working against this marginalization are not only increasing fees but also giving their rich salary an unneeded boost. September 19th 2007 California State Universities Board of Trustees approved a raise in salaries for campus presidents and system executives. Our beloved president̢۪s salary was raised by an excessive 45,011, he is now making a massive 299,000. Chancellor Reed pay was raised up to 421,000 dollars, compare that to 400,00 that President bush was making annually.

Now think, is it justifiable that we as students are told that we are under going a crisis and that we must be comprehensive, while executives are giving themselves pay boosts?

That is why I ask you to educate yourselves, and your peers. Become aware of the injustice that is occurring in our education system. The more you become aware the more you are apt to oppose the transgressors of our rights.

Library: beneficial or superficial?

The recent addition to Fresno State is a sight to see. Its size and architectural beauty is mesmerizing at first glance, but as everyone̢۪s mother once told them, never judge a book by its cover, or in this case, never judge a library by its size and outward appearance.

I must admit, I enjoy the fresh new smell, the modern architecture and the giant MAC computers. But, picture this, your sitting on the second floor, at a table next to a wall of glass, when suddenly you hear what sounds like a stampede of animals running up the stairs made of an unknown material that resembles the sound of aluminum.

Then you hear the sound of the beeping elevator, and the large group of people being toured loudly around by a man in a “Henry Madden Library Staffâ€Â shirt.

Last time I checked, libraries where places where silence was guaranteed, not distractions. Where one could go to sit at a comfortable, quiet, resourceful place to complete whatever needed. Why was all that money spent on a new library that does not serve its main purpose?
