Senior guard Dwight O̢۪Neil has been suspended indefinitely from the men̢۪s basketball team after being arrested for driving with a suspended or revoked license.
Prior to the incident, O’Neil had missed two of the Bulldogs’ previous three games. He served a one game suspension for inappropriate conduct on Jan. 22, when the ’Dogs played Louisiana Tech.
He then missed the Jan. 28 matchup with Houston Baptist because of a family death. O̢۪Neil was arrested late Wednesday night after being pulled over in south Fresno.
After being pulled over, officers discovered that O’Neil had a warrant out for his arrest. The outstanding warrant was for the same offense – driving without a license in May 2007.
The 2007 incident held a fine and a community service requirement and O̢۪Neil failed to pay the fine of nearly $2,000 dollars or serve the hours.
O̢۪Neil is currently being held in Fresno County Jail and is not available for bail. The offense holds a $1,140 fine.
Looking forward
Without O̢۪Neil in their past three games, the Bulldogs are 2-1 and took the league̢۪s top team, Utah State, to overtime on Saturday night.
Fresno State fell to the Aggies in the overtime period.
As of now, the team and university have set no timetable for O̢۪Neil̢۪s return following his release from jail, which could be up to a week from Thursday.
Fresno State plays again this Thursday night in Honolulu. The men̢۪s team travels to Hawaii to take on the Warriors in conference play.
The Bulldogs are currently 1-6 in the WAC and are in last place in the conference.
