12-10-08: United Auto Workers Local 4123 representing the Teaching Associates, Graduate Assistants and Instructional Student Assistants announced its strike on CSU campuses starting today (December 10, 2008) has been postponed pending meetings with the California State University and Senate President Pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg.
The following is a message wrote to all university students from Paul M. Oliaro, vice president for student affairs, regarding the United Auto Workers’ strike which is scheduled for Dec. 10.
To All University Students:
As you may have heard, the United Auto Workers Local 4123 representing the Teaching Associates, Graduate Assistants and Instructional Student Assistants has voted to strike on campuses starting Wednesday, December 10, 2008. This Campus will remain open during any such job action. Student instruction and other student services will continue during any such activity.
Students should continue to attend classes and other required University activities. The University will continue to provide faculty and staff, as appropriate, for these events.
Students who live in residence halls will continue to have all usual services provided. The Student Union, Library, and other Student Affairs and student service offices will also remain open.
A UAW picket line is expected in the Free Speech area, and is not expected to interfere with normal campus activities. You are not obligated to provide the members of a picket line with your name or any other information. If a member of the picket line harasses you, you can report the incident immediately to University Police at 278-8400.
