Fresno State parking should adopt ‘students first’ policy
Everyone complains about Fresno State parking, we all know that it̢۪s awful. I also find myself basically stalking a person for their parking space.
So why has Fresno State given our already meager parking to Fashion Fair mall employees? Lot Q is being shut down to Fresno State students to be made available to these mall employees. What are the students getting in return for giving up their limited parking spots?
Where is the money that Fashion Fair is paying to Fresno State going? As a student who frequently parks in lot Q, I believe that Fresno State needs to think of their students before they think of turning a profit.

Students spend the holidays in a financial crunch
With the economic hardships we are currently experiencing, what kind of picture does it paint for the holiday season coming up around the corner?
We don̢۪t want unwrapped gifts or to eat boring microwavable TV dinners.
We want colorful boxes tied with sparkling bows set tidily under an ornamented tree and a delicious feast with turkey, or ham if you prefer, at the center of the table, surrounded by all your favorite foods — for me, it would have to be deviled eggs and pounds of garlic mashed potatoes!
But lately we have all been experiencing difficulties trying to stuff money into the piggy bank for the upcoming holiday season.
It is not easy saving up enough money when most of it is going toward bills, rent, tuition, gas, and other expenses!
In September, in a Collegian article “State Funds Delayed,â€Â Adam Criswell writes that California’s state budget problem had affected Fresno State students because the California Student Aid Commission was waiting for approval of the state budget to send money to the university.
The university has taken action, but unfortunately, there are students still struggling.
Not only is the delay in funds a predicament, but even the increase of the tuition has brought students deeper and deeper into debt.
In May, ABC local news reported, “CSU trustees authorized raising yearly undergraduate tuition by $276 or 10 percent.â€Â
The increase of the tuition, along with lesser campus spending, is supposed to help reduce the statewide budget deficit.
So, with all these stressful dilemmas and more weighing down upon our chests, what does the holiday season look like it̢۪s going to be?
I suppose the one thing we should be really excited about for now is the $1.87 per gallon gas prices!

Racist presidential jokes, e-mails disrespectful
The votes are in; we have a new president.
Get over it!
Enough already with the racist presidential jokes, chain e-mails, and text messages.
I̢۪m tired of hearing racist jokes, I̢۪m tired of my inboxes overflowing with inconsiderate humor, and I̢۪m tired of this rudeness spreading like a plague.
Our new president doesn̢۪t deserve to be so blatantly disrespected.
Regardless of who you voted for, one needs to be supportive of the new president.
It̢۪s hard enough to lead an entire country through a war and economic downfall. Let̢۪s not add to the problems by being needlessly resistant citizens.
So the next time you hear a rude joke or receive a disrespectful e-mail, don̢۪t laugh along with everyone else. Instead show some respect for your country and for your new president, and, whatever you do, don̢۪t spread the plague.

anyway around paying those rediculous fees. I give it up to anybody who can find an alternative to the rediculous single-level overexpanded lots on campus. If the 7-11 back alleyway floats your boat, more power to you!!!

wtf turkey how do you know if junior is broke or not.You don’t know *hit about junior do you? You prob don’t even know who that person is and yet you think they are a liar.Maybe they don’t have the money to pay for parking, and maybe they are already working full time for all you know.So maybe they can’t work an extra bit as you put it to pay for it because maybe their schedule is already full.Granted they shouldnt be parking there but thats no reason to call them lazy.I hope maybe one day you wont have $68 dollars so you will learn to think before you talk. The polite thing to do is to simply say hey junior those spots are for our apartment complex and your not suppose to park there.Instead you choose to be rude and call people names and make assumptions about them.I hope you are a freshman because you have a lot to learn.

Actually junior, you still dont get it. There are parkings but if your roomating with someone you cant fit in 2 cars in a single car stall. which is why many of us resort to parking on the side street. And guess what? you are lazy…your lazy to buy a parking pass and work a littel extra to pay for it. And trust me your not $68 dollars broke you just rather be lazy and not work a bit extra for it.

Sorry Turkey, I thought everyone who lived there had parking spots behind the buildings. They should require the people who live there to display a parking pass in their window so that other people can’t take all the spots. By the way, I’m not cheap, just broke and I’m definitely not lazy since it takes a while to walk from there.

Jessie–I can’t believe the shrieking coming from conservatives about Obama (your post just being the latest example). Let me know when the mixing of the Jim Jones recipe for Koolaid begins–I’ll come watch.

Ashley,
I agree with your opinion about the racist presidential chain e-mails and text messages. As far as the jokes about our new President go, he’s fair game. Just look at what we’ve been doing to our current President, we’ve been making fun of him since he took office. We still even make fun of former President Clinton. So I guess maybe it’s a sign of our time, that we, not all, make fun of our Presidents.

I also am glad my editorial has said something about it but it would be nice for someone or something to acutally investigate about it….maybe our collegian can do that. Do some really cool investigative journalism like when they found those CEOs of ford and GM asking for bailoits but here they were flying in on expensive personal jets.
get the real corruption exposed on our campus. why the heck must this community be so conservative that we cant talk about it. Im fed up with having to hound and stalk other students in parking lots just to get parking.
I bet if i took weltys parking spot he would cry a fit

whoa, that was intense turkey and junior. But yea unfortunately they are strictly enforcing parking for fashion fair employees one of my friends car was towed from Fresno State on black Friday. I’m glad that my editorial started some conversation about this though, its always been an issue but maybe someone will actually listen this time!

Your cheap and lazy and should buy a pass……your word has already got around and frankly many of us residents who live here are always mad when students who dont live in these residential apartments, think it is ok for them to park and stay all damn day when it is our space for residential living.

They must be following the rules this year with the Fashion Fair stickers. The past two years they didn’t really check since my mom never had her sticker in her window, and I would take the shuttle bus to the mall so I wouldn’t have to deal with parking. But I did hear that last year they towed away employees who parked at the mall when they were supposed to use the shuttle. Either way, Fashion Fair could benefit from a parking structure since parking is just a general issue in Fresno.
And I agree with Will, i5pm seems like a better time for green permits to be able to park in yellow lots. I know I would appreciate it.

Hey, best kept secret in parking–behind the 7/11 on Shaw and Maple. I almost always find a parking spot, albeit one that requires some maneuvering, but 68 bucks cheaper than parking on campus. Actually, I shouldn’t be saying this. I don’t want it to get around.

And Ashley, were you singing the same tune back in 2001 when Dubya received the worst welcome Washington D.C. has even given a new prez on Inauguration Day? The eggs, the banners, the jeers…………I seriously doubt Obama will get that kind of reception even though he presents the gravest threat to American values we have ever seen.

Ashley,
Humor is part of the American relationship with politics. No politician is off limits, regarless of his or her race or gender. The hypersensitivity related to Obama jokes and how he is somehow annointed ‘off limits’ is what needs to cease. When can we treat Obama like the rest of them? Hopefully soon enough.

Devin, I also have a friend that works at fashion fair and I received specific dates that CSU Fresno students were not allowed to park in lot Q. We are still in session for some of the dates the lot is closed. I realize that not all the dates are while we are still in session but still even two or three days with out that many parking spaces is an inconvenience.
And in reference to your “free ride to fashion fair” this unfortunately doesn’t work either, you must have a sticker that only fashion fair employees receive to park in lot Q to ride the bus. But it was a good idea in theory!!

the fashion fair thiing still doesnt clear up PROBLEMS we have regarding parking.
Its unsafe for a person to have to walk so far to lots Q in the dark. The whole “police will escort anyone to their car if they feel unsafe” is stupid and a way to avoid responsibilty for student safety.
whoever is in charge of planning campus traffic and safety should be fired.
I get out of my classes late in the eveing and it is dark out and i have to walk all the way out to lots like Q. Its stupid that we cant park in the YELLOW until after 7:30pm when all those yellow spots are empty.
I get out of work and arrive to my 6pm classes and i still cant park in yellow unless i somehow have a class after 7:30 it should be after 5…all green have the RIGHT to park in yellow.
Why doesnt welty , and all those other special pass people park in the green see how they like it.

In reference to Fashion Fair employees parking in Lot Q:
I have a parent that works in Fashion Fair, and for the past few years they have used Lot Q to park in during the Christmas Rush. This never seemed like an inconvience to me because they generally only park there when we aren’t in session. The use it the weekend after Thanksgiving, and then the Friday after finals until Christmas. If I am not mistaken, classes aren’t in session at this time, so parking for students going to campus shouldn’t be a big issue. If anything, Fashion Fair employees should be the ones complaining. They have to be bussed to work just so their customers won’t complain even more about their parking hassels. Besides, they don’t regulate who uses the busses to Fashion Fair, so I say that if you are so put out over their parking on campus, take advantage of the free ride to Fashion Fair.
