Despite recent speculation that he would be filling the head coaching vacancy at the University of Washington, Fresno State head coach Pat Hill said Thursday he will be staying with the Bulldogs.
Hill said he gave Washington until Wednesday to let him know if they had to come to a decision, but was not contacted. He felt that he wasn’t Washington’s top candidate.
Despite having good talks with Washington, Hill said he still has a lot to accomplish with the Fresno State football program.
One of those accomplishments Hill is hoping to gain is a win in the New Mexico Bowl on December 20.
Fresno State accepted the bid to the bowl game held in Albuquerque, N.M. and will be facing off against a team from the Mountain West Conference.
The most likely opponent for Fresno State will be the Colorado State Rams. The Rams went 6-6 this season and 4-4 in conference play.
Fresno State played two bowl games against Mountain West teams in 1999 and 2000, losing both games.
The game will air on ESPN at 11:30 a.m. on December 20.

At least with Colorado State we have a fighting chance. I mean, how much would it suck to lose the last game of the year . . . and a bowl game at that.

We took the first thing we could get. We were committed to a bowl before anyone had even thought about sending FS elsewhere. I know if we were to hold out then we would have gone to a good bowl vs a better team than Colorado state. Stupid.

Nah, we are the WAC team that hasto take what is leftover. theother teams all beat us headto head. LaTechand Nev have same record but beat us. Colorado State won’t be bad. But they better not give the Emerald bowl in San Fran to SJ State,.

why play in that game over Humanitaria, Emerald, or Poinsettia!!?? Bad decision. Albuquerque is like Fresno only it snows in the winter. And taking on a MWC 7-5 team? No glory for a win there. We should have held out to see what else was available. Projections has us perhaps going to Detroit or down south to take on a mid-level Big East team like UConn. We could have had TCU in the Poinsettia, Air Force at Fort Worth, or Wake Forest or Maryland in S.F. or Boise.
