Since its opening in 1968, Fresno State̢۪s University Student Union (USU), has been a hotspot on campus for those wanting to study, socialize, eat or get their mind off their studies for a little bit.
On Wednesday, the USU’s 40th anniversary, or “birthdayâ€Â was celebrated with a carnival on its upper deck, as well as events in the lower level’s Pit area.
The free event was the first of three days that aimed to acknowledge the USU̢۪s importance to the campus, as well as recognize those who helped make it a reality.
The event featured stilt walkers, a clown, magic shows, cotton candy, hot dogs, temporary tattoos and carnival games. The date’s significance was recognized with a birthday cake, which Surentrol Harvey, child development major, tried that afternoon. The Fresno State’s own band, The Bulldog Beat, also took part by playing “Happy Birthday.â€Â
