With the semester nearing its end and the holiday season beckoning, California State University̢۪s November musical performance calendar gets crowded, creating a gift for music lovers of all tastes.
Here̢۪s what̢۪s ahead for November 2008. All events are open to the public.
· New faculty member Anthony Radford, a baritone, performs songs by Pfitzner, Brahms, Debussy and Ives with his wife, Sarah Thrasher, and university pianist Hatem Nadim at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, at the Wahlberg Recital Hall. Admission: $6 general, $5 faculty, staff, seniors, students.
· The student composers recital features works by Fresno State students and performed by students at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at the Wahlberg Recital Hall. Admission: $8 general, $5 faculty, staff, seniors, students.
· Continuing the tradition of inviting children to live performances, the Community Chorus Master Chorale and Coro Piccolo present Rutter’s “The Reluctant Dragon” will be performed for children at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 8 at the Concert Hall. Admission: $5 ($10 maximum per family). Performances for the general public are at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8 and 2:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Concert Hall. Admission: $15 general, $8 students.
· The Percussion Ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Concert Hall. Admission: $6 general, $5 faculty, staff, seniors, and $4 students.
· Fresno State guitar quartets will perform chamber music at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Wahlberg Recital Hall. Admission: $6 general, $5 faculty, staff, seniors, students.
· Flute studio and flute ensemble students of Dr. Teresa Beaman perform solos, accompanied by Nadim, at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Wahlberg Recital Hall. Admission: $6 general, $5 faculty, staff, seniors, students.
· “Fall Choral Classicsâ€Â features Fresno State choirs singing at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Concert Hall. Admission: $6 general, $5 faculty, staff, seniors, students.
· The Clendenin Brass Quintet, the Music Department’s premier brass group, performs at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Wahlberg Recital Hall. Admission: $5 general, $3 faculty, staff, seniors, students.
· A percussion studio recital is offered at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at 7 the Concert Hall. Admission: free; seating is limited.
· A saxophone studio recital is offered at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Wahlberg Recital Hall. Admission: $6 general, $5 faculty/staff/seniors/students.
· Faculty member Alan Durst performs a saxophone concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Concert Hall. Admission: $6 general, $5 faculty, staff, seniors, students.
· Opera Workshop students present a program in English at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 21 and 3 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Wahlberg Recital Hall. Admission: $7 general, $5 seniors and students.
· String chamber ensembles perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 22 at 7 the Concert Hall. Admission: $6 general, $5 faculty, staff, seniors, students.
· Anne-Marie McDermott, an American pianist who won an Avery Fisher Career Development Award, performs at 3 p.m. Nov. 23 in the Concert Hall as part of the Philip Lorenz Memorial Concerts series. Admission: $18 general, $12 seniors, $5 students. Reservations are encouraged.
· “A Band Spectacularâ€Â features Jazz Band “A,â€Â the Wind Orchestra and the Bulldog Marching Band in concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 24 at the Concert Hall. Admission: $6 general, $5 faculty, staff, seniors, students.
