No. 1 USC Trojans (1-0)
Last Week: Bye
Next Opponent: Ohio State (Sept. 13)
Tidbit: The Trojans looked virtually unstoppable in week one against Virginia and coach Pete Carroll has had two weeks to dissect the Buckeyes̢۪ defense. This is being billed as the game of the year, but do not count on it being close.
No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs (2-0)
Last Week: Beat Central Michigan, 56-17, in Athens
Next Opponent: at South Carolina (Sept. 13)
Tidbit: The Bulldogs have rolled in their first two games, but finally get into the difficult part of the schedule with SEC foe South Carolina. The Gamecocks will be a test for the Bulldogs, but count on seeing them near the top of this list again next time.
No. 3 Florida Gators (2-0)
Last Week: Beat Miami, 26-3, in Gainesville
Next Opponent: Tennessee (Sept. 20)
Tidbit: Last week̢۪s victory over Miami was the Gators̢۪ first over the Hurricanes since 1985. Tim Tebow and the Gators will have a week off to rest up and get ready for their trip to Knoxville to open the SEC season against the Volunteers.
No. 4 Oklahoma Sooners (2-0)
Last Week: Beat Cincinnati, 52-26, in Norman
Next Opponent: at Washington (Sept. 13)
Tidbit: The Sooners̢۪ offense has been dominant in the past few weeks, putting up 50 or more in both of their games. Quarterback Sam Bradford and the Sooners should have a successful trip to the Pacific Northwest.
No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes (2-0)
Last Week: Beat Ohio, 26-14, in Columbus
Next Opponent: at USC (Sept. 13)
Tidbit: The Buckeyes started slowly against the Bobcats last week and never really controlled the game until the end. A trip to Southern California to visit the No. 1 team in the land might be the end of Ohio State̢۪s national title run.
No. 6 Missouri Tigers (2-0)
Last Week: Beat Southeast Missouri State, 52-3, in Columbia
Next Opponent: Nevada (Sept. 13)
Tidbit: The Tigers have a high-powered offense led by Heisman hopeful Chase Daniel and had no trouble beating the Redhawks. The Tigers will have a test and may be surprised by the offense of the Nevada Wolf Pack.
No. 7 LSU Tigers (1-0)
Last Week: Game postponed, Hurricane Gustav
Next Opponent: North Texas (Sept. 13)
Tidbit: The Tigers looked strong in week one against Appalachian State, but were forced to postpone their game last week because of damages to Tiger Stadium. LSU will have little problem dealing with North Texas.
No. 8 Auburn Tigers (2-0)
Last Week: Beat Southern Mississippi, 27-13, in Auburn
Next Opponent: at Mississippi State (Sept. 13)
Tidbit: After quarterback controversy for the first two weeks of the season, the Tigers settled on junior Chris Todd to lead the offense against Mississippi State. Tigers are tough, but their scheduled opponents may be tougher.
No. 9 Texas Longhorns (2-0)
Last Week: Beat UTEP, 42-13, in El Paso
Next Opponent: Rice (Sept. 20)
Tidbit: The Longhorns were scheduled to play at Arkansas on Sept. 13, but the game has been postponed due to Hurricane Ike. Quarterback Colt McCoy and the Longhorns take this week off, but do not have a real challenge until mid-October, when they face Oklahoma.
No. 10 Wisconsin Badgers (2-0)
Last Week: Beat Marshall, 51-14, in Madison
Next Opponent: at Fresno State (Sept. 13)
Tidbit: The Badgers held true to their contract to visit Fresno after the Bulldogs played in Madison in 2001 and 2002. This could be the biggest game ever at Bulldog Stadium and the Bulldogs will keep the Badgers nervous until the end.
Dropped out: West Virginia
Honorable mention: East Carolina, Kansas
