The Fresno State men̢۪s club volleyball team will travel to Dallas this week to attend the National Intramural-Recreational Association (NIRSA) volleyball championships. The Bulldogs are attending the championships as the 2008 Northern California Collegiate Volleyball League (NCCVL) champions.
In the NCCVL championships, which took place at the end of March, Fresno State faced opponents they had played during their regular season.
In the quarterfinals, the Bulldogs came out victorious, winning three matches over Stanford.
At their first meeting against Stanford in February, Fresno State won in three matches.
The second meeting was won by Stanford at a tournament in Santa Clara.
To advance to the finals at the NCCVL championship, the Bulldogs defeated Cal in four matches.
In the two previous meetings, the Bulldogs won both games over the Bears.
In the final NCCVL game, Fresno State took on UC Davis. With 13 blocks and 40 digs, the Bulldogs beat the Aggies in three.
This was the first time the Bulldogs reached the finals at this tournament since 2004 — the year they won the NCCVL championship and a national title. The quest for a repeat performance will begin Thursday at the Dallas Convention Center.
