Women̢۪s Golf
The women̢۪s golf team remains in second place after day two of the 18th annual Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships yesterday.
The Bulldogs are hosting the event at the Sunnyside Country Club.
Senior Laura Luethke has led the team through the first two rounds.
Yesterday, she tied for second place after making two birdies in the final two holes.
She is two strokes back from the leader at a two-over par 74.
Taylor Siebert moved up to tie for seventh after improving her score by one stroke on Tuesday. She is nine over par.
Hali Coppin also improved her second round with a score of 76.
She quadruple-bogeyed the first hole and went on the shoot even for the rest of the day with two birdies and two bogeys.
She finished tied for 11th place.
The three-round tournament will conclude today.
Men̢۪s Tennis
The men̢۪s tennis team finished its season at home with a big win over Pacific over the weekend.
The 7-0 victory came after a couple weeks off. The team is now 13-1 at home, with an overall record of 15-8 this season.
Sophomore Mirko Zapletal led the ‘Dogs in the singles match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Pacific’s David Gonzalez for his 19th win this season.
Junior Rudolf Siwy won a team-best 26th overall match in the No. 1 spot over Moritz Starke.
The men̢۪s team will now head to Las Cruces, N.M. for the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) tournament this Thursday, April 24.
They could win an automatic spot into the NCAA tournament, which starts May 5, at this event.
Women̢۪s Tennis
The No. 15 women̢۪s tennis teams ended the regular season with a doubleheader win at home last weekend.
The Bulldogs took on Cal Poly and Pacific at the Wathen Tennis Center.
They beat Cal Poly 6-1 and shut out Pacific 7-0. This improved their overall record to 17-7 for the year.
They will head to Las Cruces, N.M. this Thursday, April 24, for the WAC tournament.
Senior Jacqueline Haskett won all four of her matches on Saturday and was honored between her doubles and singles play.
Haskett has become a key player for the women̢۪s tennis team, going undefeated in three WAC tournaments, with a singles record of 5-0 and 4-0 in doubles.
This may have been the last time Haskett will play in Wathen Tennis Center, unless the Bulldogs host next month̢۪s NCAA Championships.
They are likely to host again this year if they stay in the top-16.
Baseball
The team swept a four-game series from a conference opponent last week for the second straight week in a row.
They beat New Mexico State on the road, outscoring them 59-22 for the series.
The Bulldogs beat the Aggies 24-6 in seven innings, the fourth most runs scored in a game in school history.
They are now 24-16 overall, 13-3 in WAC play.
Sophomore Steve Detwiler was named WAC Hitter of the Week for the week of April 14.
He hit .563 with a .708 on-base percentage.
Detwiler picked up nine hits, including two home runs and 11 RBI as the Bulldogs went 4-1 last week.
The Bulldogs host San Francisco tonight at 6 p.m.
Softball
The No. 12 softball team was in San Jose last weekend and swept the three-game series against the Spartans.
Freshman pitcher Morgan Melloh finished two games with seven strikeouts each, moving her to 325 total this season.
She has also earned her 31st win of the season.
Caitlin Stiglich hit her ninth home run of the year in game two, a solo shot to left field.
Haley Gilleland stole her 18th and 19th bases of the season, ranking her number two in a single-season.
The Bulldogs will take on Hawaii in three games this weekend, starting on Friday night.
