After splitting their Western Athletic Conference (WAC) opening series with Hawaii, 2-2, the Fresno State baseball team swept Cal Poly Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Bulldogs had to rally from behind in both Tuesday and Wednesday̢۪s contests, which they won 10-9 and 13-11.

Junior Gavin Hedstrom led the Diamond Dogs offensively Tuesday night, going 2 for 5 with four RBI and a three-run homer.

The Bulldogs were down 9-8 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and had to rally for a 10-9 victory.

Hedstrom scored the winning run on Tuesday night when third baseman Tom Mendonca hit a sharp grounder off the glove of the Cal Poly second baseman for a single that brought Hedstrom home from second.

Golden Spike Award nominee Tanner Scheppers started on the mound for the Bulldogs and gave up three earned runs on eight hits while striking out five batters.

Jake Hower picked up the win for the Bulldogs, pitching 2.2 innings of relief.

In Wednesday night̢۪s contest the Bulldogs had a 10-3 lead going into the seventh inning, but had to come from behind when the Mustangs took the lead 11-10.

The Bulldogs responded in the bottom half of the inning with home runs from freshman Trent Soares and senior outfielder Steve Susdorf.

Susdorf hit two home runs Wednesday night and finished his night with four RBI and three runs scored.

Justin Miller picked up the win for the Bulldogs in relief pitching the final 2.2 innings for Fresno state.

He is a perfect 3-0 on the season.

The Bulldogs will now welcome in WAC rival Nevada for a four-game series starting tonight at 6:05.

Nevada is 4-0 in WAC play after sweeping Louisiana Tech last weekend in Reno. The Wolf Pack lead the conference in batting with a .331 batting average and is fifth in ERA with a mark of 5.97.
