Reid Yoshimura can be seen hurtling down the court on any given day looking for a pass.
He plays basketball — but not any official basketball game.
Although he enjoys playing competitively, what he plays in is the Fresno State intramurals.
Intramurals coordinator, Lerin Mundell, is in charge of organizing the teams.
“It’s a recreation program allowing any student on campus to participate in a wide variety of sports,â€Â Mundell said.
A different variety of sports are offered each semester.
This semester, basketball, soccer, softball, team tennis, inner tube water polo and racquetball are offered.
Tournaments in dodgeball, kickball and pingpong are also available.
The sign-up dates for basketball and soccer have passed, but those who signed up will begin playing soon Monday through Thursday.
Inner tube water polo, team tennis, softball and racquetball leagues currently have sign-ups at the Student Rereation Center.
Water polo sign-ups last until March 7 while tennis is from March 3 until March 28.
Softball sign-ups are March 10 until April 4 and racquetball is on-going throughout the semester.
“We have divisions for the more competitive,â€Â Mundell said, “but the leagues allow for all levels of ability.â€Â
All leagues for inner tube water polo, team tennis, and softball are recreational and coed, however, softball offers men̢۪s and women̢۪s teams.
Water polo and softball teams have a $20 fee to play.
Some sports will have tournaments instead of the normal leagues.
Dodgeball is one of the new tournaments available this semester, Mundell said, along with kickball and pingpong.
Dodgeball is set to be “the end-of-the-semester shebang.â€Â
Member Services at the Student Recreation Center has more information on intramural signups.
“The intramurals’ most unique sport is also the least well-known,â€Â Mundell said. “Inner tube water polo is intense but extremely fun, and we’re always on the lookout for more players.â€Â
Sign-ups for spring intramural sports are starting soon or have already begun.
Inner tube water polo: Feb. 19 – Mar. 7
Team tennis: Mar. 3 – Mar. 28
Softball: Mar. 10 – April 4
Racquetball: All Semester at the Student Recreation Center
To sign up, call 347-3825 or visit Member Services at the Student Recreation Center.
