Women (10-8) @ San Jose State (2-15)
Gameday: Saturday, 7 p.m. at The Event Center
Breakdown: Bulldogs
A win for the Bulldogs could tie a record for the longest win streak in school history and give head coach Adrian Wiggins his 100th win.
The Jan. 22 match up between these two teams was an extremely competitive game in which San Jose kept the game close until the final four minutes of the game.
Wiggins said that the team̢۪s biggest adjustment was going to be a higher level of focus.
Freshman forward Hayley Munro said that the Spartans were sure to give them a competitive match in the next game.
The Bulldogs dominated the paint in their last game against the Spartans. Munro tied a career-high in points, and the team out rebounded the Spartans 45-27. Look for big performances from post players Munro and senior Erica Henry.
The Spartans host the Bulldogs on Saturday, which could be both a competitive and historic night.
Breakdown: Spartans
Despite the team̢۪s 1-16 record, the Spartans gave the Bulldog defense plenty of trouble last game causing them to make several mistakes, opening up jump shots for the Spartans.
The Spartans are led by junior guard Natalie White who averages 16.1 points per game. She is currently fourth in scoring in the conference. In her last outing against the Bulldogs, she shot 50 percent from the field.
Keys to Victory…
To keep their winning streak rolling, the Bulldogs need to:
̢ۢ Work the post. Henry and Munro dominated last time against the Spartans.
̢ۢ Let Tierre loose. Wilson scored 22 points against the Spartans on Tuesday night.
̢ۢ Stay focused. The Spartans̢۪ record is misleading, the Bulldogs can̢۪t play down to their level.
Men (9-10) vs. San Jose State (9-8)
Gameday: Saturday, 7 p.m. at Save Mart Center
Listen Live: KMJ-AM 580 and KFIG-AM 1600
Breakdown: Bulldogs
The Bulldogs’ next game is against the San Jose Spartans, a team that barley beat the ‘Dogs 69-65.
The Bulldogs have been without versatile forward Dwight O̢۪Neil for most of the season.
The Bulldogs are currently on a two-game losing streak with losses to Hawaii and San Jose State. Despite losing two games, Hector Hernandez has had two productive games. Senior point guard Kevin Bell said that one thing that would get this team to mesh together well would be improved play from Hernandez.
Another Bulldog to look for is Eddie Miller, although he has struggled lately. He only scored two points at Hawaii and 8 points against the Spartans, two totals well below his 13.1-point per game average. Miller̢۪s teammates have made several comments about Miller̢۪s ability to bounce back after tough nights.
The Bulldogs came very close to beating the Spartans in the last meeting between the two teams. Saturday’s home game against the Spartans should give the ‘Dogs a legitimate chance to break their two-game losing streak and move up in the standings.
Breakdown: Spartans
The Spartans currently have a 2-3 record in conference, and are one spot ahead of the ‘Dogs in the Western Athletic Conference standings.
San Jose lost leading scorer Justin Graham in the team̢۪s Jan. 14 meeting against Hawaii.
Since Graham̢۪s injury, the Spartans have picked up the slack. Four of the five players in the team̢۪s starting line-up average around 10 points a game. A big game can come from any Spartan at anytime.
