Volleyball
At the Kansas State Invitational Friday and Saturday, the Fresno State women̢۪s volleyball team went 1-2, beating Arkansas while falling to Kansas State and University of Northern Iowa.
Down by two games Friday, the Bulldogs came back to win 30-24, 30-28, 15-13, respectively.
Since 30-point scoring started six years ago, this is only the second time the Bulldogs were down 2-0 and came back to win.
That game, against Sacramento State, was won 30-25, 32-30, 15-10.
Outside hitter Alisha McKee had four kills in game three and totaled 12 kills in all five games. Sophomore outside hitter Lacey Gera hit a team-best .182 and had 14 kills.
Both games Saturday were 3-0 losses for the Bulldogs, who are 2-7.
The Kansas State Invitational all-tournament team was announced Saturday and included Gera, who had eight kills in the Kansas State match.
The Lady ‘Dogs return home to take on Oregon State at the Save Mart Center Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Admission is free for Fresno State students with valid I.D.
Cross Country
The Fresno State women̢۪s cross country team finished sixth out of 12 teams Saturday in the UC Irvine Invitational, and the men̢۪s team took ninth out of 20 teams.
For the women, junior Roxanne Sellick finished ninth with a time of 18:27, followed by sophomore Marissa McPhail, who had a time of 18:43 to place 15th.
For the men, freshman Erick Garcia took 17th with a time of 25:09 in his first collegiate meet. Sophomores Frank Sanders took 24th and Brandon Geis finished 56th with times of 25:38 and 26:28, respectively.
UC Irvine won the women̢۪s 5K race and Cal Poly won the men̢۪s race.
The Bulldogs head to the Sacramento State Invitational next week on Sept. 15.
Soccer
The Fresno State women̢۪s soccer team fell to Sacramento State Sunday in a 5-1 loss at Hornet Field.
The Hornets are now 3-0 and are picked to win the Big Sky Conference.
Forward Andrea Salvador had the lone goal for the Bulldogs in minute 79 on a redirect from a right-footed cross from midfielder Ali Sill.
This is the first goal the Hornets have allowed this season.
Salvador took three of the Bulldogs̢۪ 14 shots.
The Hornets scored four unanswered goals in the first half and took 11 shots on goal over the Bulldogs̢۪ seven.
Bulldog goalkeeper Jennifer Zenovich recorded three saves in the first half, and keeper Kaity Revel made two saves with one goal awarded in the second half.
The Bulldogs (1-2) continue on the road at Northern Colorado (0-3) on Friday.
