The thrill of the fall semester brings about so much new stuff it is almost exciting.
All the construction going on is one thing that brings an obvious sign of change.
A new football season is almost underway and after a less-than-impressive season last year, the buzz is all about the return of Tom Brandstater and this year̢۪s new talent.
Another change is the one taking place in The Collegian̢۪s sports section.
Darrell Copeland III and Jeff Christian played a big part last semester in the section̢۪s success.
My hope is to be as dedicated to this as they were.
The time has come for someone else to take the reigns and run these pages for a while.
It̢۪s time for me, the new sports editor, to step up to the plate and show you what̢۪s on deck this semester with the sports page.
I can only speak for myself, but I̢۪m sure my co-sports editor, Jimmy Graben, will agree.
I will cover what I can, and I will cover it well.
If that̢۪s not being delivered, let us know.
While I think that football is great and should be covered, I also think we shouldn̢۪t neglect the other athletic teams.
No matter what sport it is—club or intramurals—we want to cover it.
As a former high school athlete myself, I know how frustrating the lack for sports other than football and basketball is.
Why not spend a Sunday afternoon watching the lady ‘dogs bump, set and spike a ball or 22 women kick a soccer ball around?
(Admission is free.)
I don̢۪t think you even have to be a huge fan of a sport to enjoy it; you just need to understand the rules.
This brings me to another point.
Because cheering etiquette was never taught in school, many people are unaware of what to do and when.
Understanding what̢۪s going on means you won̢۪t be tempted to cheer at the wrong time or boo because you don̢۪t understand a call.
The rules of most sports aren’t too complicated—a little research can help you understand and maybe even enjoy the game.
Who knows? Maybe that cute girl you saw on the field is in your English class. You know, the girl who you would never get the chance to talk to because you had nothing in common.
If you see her play, you̢۪ll know her name and can talk to her about soccer.
Perfect.

Great to hear you’ll be covering all the sports, but don’t forget, there’s a reason football gets so much ink (it has huge readership).
Looking forward to seeing what’s coming up this week!
