Fresno State University Police evacuated approximately 400 people then closed the Kremen Education Building Wednesday evening after a caller reported a suspicious briefcase.
“The owner of the briefcase has not been identified yet,” Fresno State Police Information Officer Amy Armstrong said Thursday morning.
The briefcase was apparently abandoned in the lower level of the building and was reported to campus police at 7:24 p.m.
“We have asked the campus community to report suspicious activity, and they did,” Armstrong said. “We take such calls seriously and exercise caution in ensuring safety for our students and employees.”
According to Armstrong, the briefcase was opened and contained mostly papers, documents and personal items.
