All kinesiology professor Dr. Felicia Greer needs is a helmet and a bike and she is ready to go. Literally she will be on the road, riding somewhere. Whether participating in a race, or training, Greer is always on a bike, on the move.
Greer was raised in Fredericton, New Brunswick in Canada. She grew up running. She ran middle and long distance in high school and college.
In grad school, as a poor student, Greer obtained a bike for her mode of transportation. She found that she enjoyed riding and began riding more than just as a means to get somewhere.
Greer was repeatedly getting injured while training for her running so she decided to use her bike to cross-train instead.
In the beginning, she did all of her riding and training by herself. After about five years, she started to ride with other people.
For four years Greer participated in duathlons. A duathlon is a competition where the competitors run, then bike, then run. Greer represented Canada in the World Championships in 2000 and 2001.
Greer said when she started participating in the duathlon, she was much better at running. But as she trained and competed, cycling became her strong point.
In 2002, Greer moved to California. She was riding for a small professional team, Webcor, based out of state. She rode with the team for three years.
Greer works in the Fresno State kinesiology department where she teaches classes such as lifetime wellness, body composition and metabolism.
Greer said teaching at Fresno State and being a professional cyclist can be hard but all in all it works out really well.
“My department is unbelievably supportive, Greer said.
With the cycling season spanning from March to September, not only does Greer spend most of her summer traveling, she misses some of her classes as well.
Greer is now riding for the Aaron̢۪s Corporate Furnishings team, based out of Atlanta, Ga.
Greer said when she competes Fresno State receives a lot of publicity. When introduced at the beginning or end of a race, she is recognized as a professor from Fresno State.
Greer said that even though running will always be her greatest love, cycling is a close second.
“I love it, she said. “It’s a passion.
Greer has participated in several European races including the 2005 World Championship in Spain.
Greer also competed in the CVC Cycling Classic, the Canadian Nationals and the Tour de ‘L’Aude in France in 2005.
Greer said the greatest thing about cycling and educatiing is she is able to teach her passion at the highest level.
Greer said she is often asked to give presentations to different groups.
One of the reasons why she went into sports education was for her love of running and cycling.
Greer uses real life to explain concepts to her students.
“It adds a unique dimension to my teaching, Greer said.
Greer received her Ph.D. in 2000 and has been teaching at the college level for 10 years.
Outside of work, Greer goes by her husband̢۪s last name of Gomez.
Whether on a bike or in the classroom, Greer̢۪s passion for cycling is proof that attaining personal dreams is possible despite the responsibilities of everday life.

Good changeup to get a cycling story that is very pertinent to Fresno State. But how come she rides for an Atlanta-based cycling team? That was the thing that caught my eye most about the story?
Why not one of the hometown teams…Central Valley Cycling?
