The Fresno State track and field team made the most of its trip to the 2007 Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational at UCLA this weekend as Fresno State had two athletes win gold medals.
Fresno State thrower Dave Endler won the gold medal in the discus and his mark of 53.72m qualified him for the NCAA Regional Championships in Oregon. Discus is the second event that Endler has posted an NCAA Regional Championship qualifying mark this season. The junior also qualified in the shot put at a home meet on March 24.
Katie Richardson and Mallory Webb continued to dominate the competition in the women̢۪s javelin. The senior tandem once again finished first and second respectively in the event as the tandem prepare for the WAC Championships and NCAA Regional Championships next month. Richardson also won the gold medal in the women̢۪s discus to accompany her performance in the javelin.
Christina Lopez won her heat of the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.93 and the junior also finished eighth in the 400-meter dash.
Junior Juan Valdez came close to qualifying for the NCAA Regional Championship in the 400-meter dash when he posted his season-high time of 47.97.
Sophomore Rayna White was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash and her time of 12.15 was only .01 seconds off her personal best time.
