With a showdown against the nation̢۪s No. 17 team, Louisiana-Lafayette, the Fresno State softball team had a chance to perhaps jump back into the top 25 with a win at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton.
The Bulldogs̢۪ Kristin Sylvester gave the Bulldogs a chance with a second-inning sole homerun, but the 1-0 lead would not hold up, as the Ragin̢۪ Cajuns would push across three runs in the bottom half of the second inning to make it 3-1.
The score would hold up, as the Bulldogs (20-9) could only produce three hits in the game, even though Louisiana-Lafayette (25-6) could only collect four hits of its own.
With the score tied at one in the second inning, Fresno State head coach Margie Wright brought in ace Robin Mackin to minimize the Ragin Cajuns̢۪ scoring threat, but a Haley Perkins throwing error would allow two runs to score, the eventual difference in the game.
The Bulldogs will continue play in the tournament today against No. 2 Arizona State at 9 a.m.
