Delays in the construction of the new indoor track at the Save Mart Center has put off the annual Run For The Dream track meet.
The first Run For The Dream was held in January 2006 and Bulldog alumnus Chris Berrian set a world-best time in 160-yard dash.
While the event was one of only two such events held indoors in the United States, the track itself had to be borrowed from the Sunkist Track and Field Invitational.
With the Save Mart Center working on the new track, the next Run For The Dream will not be held until 2008.
Track and field head coach Bob Fraley said, “We now have the means to build a great portable indoor track and hold an outstanding meet starting in 2008.”
The inaugural Run For The Dream brought nearly 6,000 fans to the SaveMart Center and Fraley hopes that the new track will bring more athletes to the Central Valley.
“With the new venue and facilities, I believe that there is a good chance that we can make the Run For The Dream part of the 2008 Visa Series, which would bring a large number of the elite athletes of the world here to Fresno,” he said.
