Results delayed; election commissioner blames faulty equipment

A faulty ballot-tallying machine suspended AS election results, election commissioner Raylon Madan said Thursday night. “ We had significant discrepancies between the hand count and that machine,” Madan said, pointing to the scantron-counting device sitting on a table in the USU. College of Arts and Humanities hit hardest, with a $1 million deduction from its budget

About 200 fewer classes will be offered in the coming school year because of proposed cuts for 2004-05, University President John Welty said in a budget summit meeting yesterday. Governor Schwarzenegger’s proposed budget will result in an $11 million reduction for Fresno State and an enrollment reduction by at least 900 full-time students. Academic Affairs will face a reduction of $5.6 million. Each division, school and college was asked to reduce its budget.More>>

 

 

 

Body of UHS student found in music building

The body of a female University High student was found Wednesday morning in the music building. Two Fresno State students noticed the body at around 9:50 a.m. in a piano practice room on the north end of the second floor. Music professor Sandy Giersch came upon the couple and a third Fresno State student, Katie Sanford, just before a 10 a.m. class and discovered the girl apparently had died of suicide.More>>

 

Armenian memorial set for noon today

In memorial of the Armenian Genocide, members of the Armenian Students Organization and community members will gather in the Free Speech area at noon to present poems and remember those lost in the Genocide of 1915. The Armenian Genocide was carried out between 1915 and 1916 by the government of the Ottoman Empire. About 1.5 million out of 2.5 million Armenians in the Ottoman Empire were killed. The Turkish government to this day officially denies such an event occurred.More>>
