Budget cuts curb university plans for trimester system

Plans to move Fresno State from a two-semester school year to a trimester system have been laid to rest for now, Associate Provost and Chair of Year Round Operations Kenneth Shipley said, because of the impact budget cuts have had on the university. A considerable number of classes would have been cut in the coming school year had YRO proceeded with their plans for this summer, he said.More>>

 

Recreation center set to open in 2005 despite budget cuts

Fresno State’s on-campus recreational center is scheduled to open in fall 2005, despite recent budget cuts. “ (We’re) still on pace to make that date,” said Dr. Paul Oliaro, vice president for student affairs and dean of students. Neil Gibson, president of associated students, said he looks forward to the 2005 grand opening. “ Students and administration have been working hard to make the student recreation center a reality,” he said.More>>

Amy Goodman says media, government have too close a relationship

Accusing the mainstream media of being in bed with the government, journalist Amy Goodman addressed hundreds in the Satellite Student Union Wednesday night on the need for independent media and fair reporting in the United States. Goodman, host of the radio show “Democracy Now!” is the author of “Exception to the Rulers,” an expose of what she said is a too-close relationship between the government, mainstream media and business.More>>

 

FFA Field Day at Fresno State to feature individual, team competition

For the past year, 2,300 high school students from all corners of California have been preparing for the 55th Annual Future Farmers of America Field Day and State Finals, which will be held tomorrow at Fresno State. The field day will begin at 8 a.m. with a welcome speech by the Dean of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Daniel Bartel.More>>
