John Mayer, along with opening act Maroon 5, entertained a crowded Save Mart Center Sunday Night.

Sunday night’s John Mayer concert attracted a mixed crowd to the Save Mart Center.

Excited teenage fanatics shrieking, “I love you.”

Mothers and fathers appeasing the interests of their children’s music tastes.

Forty-year-old women, recounting the concerts of their youth.

Intoxicated college students just out to have a good time.

The crowd may have varied, but they all seemed to have one thing in common.

A love of Mayer’s infectious brand of pop rock.

“ Damn, that’s a lot of people here tonight,” Mayer said to the crowd as he opened the show.

Backed by a piano, drums, bass, acoustic and electric guitars, Mayer played crowd favorites, including “Why Georgia”, “Clarity” and “Back to You.”

Emily Christensen, 17, from Visalia said she was a huge Mayer fanatic.

“ He was singing to us!” Christensen said.

Other concert attendees weren’t as enthusiastic.

Travis Ivey, 24 and Chris Walker, 24, drove all the way from Valencia to attend Mayer’s concert with their girlfriends, but stood outside during Mayer’s set.

“ We bought these tickets for our girlfriends for Christmas,” Walker said.

Brandi Lancaster of Fresno didn’t even attend the concert to see Mayer.

“ It’s all about Maroon Five,” Lancaster said, referring to the opening band. “They rocked it.”

All in all, the fanatics, families and drinkers seemed satisfied with the show.

“ Going to a concert is about the experience. It’s not necessarily about who you see,” Ivey said.
