It's the most wonderfull time of the year

It's the most wonderfall time of the year

Arrt by Monica Meza

Finally, fall is in the air. This week we finally dropped out of the 80 and 90-degree weather into somewhat better temperatures. This season might be confused with winter except there are leaves still on the trees. As always, Fresno weather never agrees with us. It’s either too hot or too cold. So while we’re in November, let’s point out the good and the bad things that come with fall.

First the perks of fall. Once leaves start falling, every student should take a walk around campus. Fresno State is gorgeous during fall. My personal favorite spot is the entrance to the amphitheatre. You get an impressive display colors—yellows and oranges. Another pretty spot where one can take in the fall weather is the area in between the Thomas Administration building and the Agriculture building. There’s a tree right near the sidewalk that makes a huge mess of leaves every fall. Even better, they’re not that quick to clean up the leaves.

Another perk of fall—it gets to be much easier to pull off the “I just got out of bed” look. I’ve already begun to see the ladies strolling onto campus with their velour suits and the guys with their sweatsuits. It’s awesome. Dressing extremely warm and not giving a care in the world to what other people think. Also, you can wear anything in your closet—you may just need to pair it up with something else. Only in fall can you still wear a T-shirt and wear a light sweater.

It’s so much easier to sleep when the weather gets colder. All you need is a warm blanket and whatever homework you may have for the evening, and you’ll be out in no time at all. It’s getting out of bed that’s a problem. Nobody wants to step out of the warm heaven underneath the blankets into the freezing misery that is the world.

But probably the best thing about fall and November is that sweet little break we get for Thanksgiving. Some may call it short, but what really matters is that it’s there. Three extra beautiful days off, our last break was that one lousy day in the second week of school. Do we really need that day off? Save it for later—like Veteran’s Day which by the way, why don’t we have it off?

Now on to what sucks about fall. You walk into class and the sun is shining and you know it’s daytime. An hour later, you walk out and it’s dark, but it’s not nighttime. In the beginning of the semester you left when the sun was up, you even have a few hours of daylight to spare. Right around this time of year you’re still adjusting to the time change and you leave your late class and you’re confused.

People get sick this time of year (duh), but people think they can still go around in shorts and be fine. People are already walking around sick from Halloween night, which means you might get sick from being around them. This is the season for tissue and cough drops. Our bodies are adjusting from unbearably hot to unbearably cold.

Fall rain only sucks in one situation—when you forget your umbrella and you think you could wear flip-flops or other inappropriate clothing. The day you don’t check the weather, you’re going to be screwed. You’ll have to go down to the Kennel Bookstore and add to your collection of umbrellas from the other years you did not learn.
